Position Purpose/Summary
Under the general supervision of the branch supervisor, the Fence Technician is responsible for the successful delivery, installation, relocation, and removal of temporary fencing.
Shift/Hours
Monday – Friday; Weekends as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct daily pre-shift & post-shift vehicle inspection & report deficiencies to shop immediately.
- Report improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions to the Operations Supervisor/Manager.
- Operate flatbed or fence trucks to and from pre-designated work sites based on daily routing information.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatch to receive additional instructions, changes to work location, etc.
- Follow basic instructions from Branch Supervisor.
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor on status of project(s), including any delays or change requests.
- Complete all necessary documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain logs for vehicles used during installation.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork for work completion (including all prevailing wage jobs).
- Ensure proper storage and maintenance of all tools used for fence installation based on company guidelines.
- Install temporary fencing at approved work site as directed.
- Measure and mark property boundaries to ensure accurate fence placement.
- Dig post holes and set posts securely in the ground.
- Install fence panels and other components according to specifications.
- Cut and shape materials to fit specific dimensions, occasionally using power tools.
- Ensure that the fence is level, plumb, and structurally sound.
- Ability to read fence plans on occasion.
- When the job has been completed, remove old fence sections, posts, and any accumulated debris while cleaning the site.
- Always leave customer site presentable and professional.
- All other duties as assigned.

- High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
- Initiative-taker.

- Ability to follow basic instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.

- Ability to multitask and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
Skills
- Language skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one conversation to customers, and other employees of the organization.
- Mathematical skills:
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American currency, measurement, weight, and distance.
- Reasoning ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid California Driver’s License and vehicle insurance at no less than California State minimum required limits of liability.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision & ability to focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions (in some cases extreme heat/cold), moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position requires employees to travel regularly to off-site work locations and as such use of a vehicle will be provided.
Safety Requirements/Personal Protective Equipment
The employee will be required to wear all safety equipment (PPE) and comply with all health and safety policies and programs enforced by the Company.
Pay Range
$20.00 – $26.00 per hour based on annual escalation established on performance metrics.
